Australian lighting brand Rakumba presented its artisan designed lighting collection along with Australian/dutch design duo Studio Truly Truly at IMM Cologne earlier this year. The “Typography” graphic lighting system is reflective of the multi-disciplinary talent of its designers and the manufacturing and specialist technical abilities of Rakumba.
“The new Typography lighting collection is inspired by the way characters form a word, and how these can be arranged in relationships to create a language of expression,” explains Studio Truly Truly.
Complete mobility is allowed for any light along the advanced, thin rail. The first Typography collection, CILON, has seven lighting fixtures, or characters. Each light can be positioned on four sides of the central axis and can be administered independently.
Typography can be formed into countless expressions; chandeliers, room dividers and simple pendants. The design possibilities are limitless, as over time the lights can be altered and moved into new positions.
“Studio Truly Truly have designed a lighting system of exceptional purity of form in their first collaboration with us,” said Rakumba’s director Michael Murray. “Based on the discipline of typography, the system allows for infinite combinations of its several component characters, creating endless configurations or ‘expressions’ as we refer to them.”
