Rain, Hail, and Shine – protecting your property with polycarbonate sheets

Amongst the many things that Sydney is known for, the unpredictable weather is definitely on the top of that list. People often say that it is possible to experience all four seasons within the span of a few hours. Inclusive in that list is the possibility of hailstorm. Hailstorms are considered to be a highly destructive natural phenomenon (as it can damage windows, awnings, and skylights).

Earlier this year in February, the hailstorm caused upward of $200 million dollars in damage, mainly from the destruction of large hail stones that shatter windows and smashed holes in roofs as well as skylights, throughout the city. Allplastics has found a solution to protect your home instead of dealing with the expensive aftermath by installing a polycarbonate roof (that is available in clear, opal or tinted finishes).

A resident compares the size of a hailstone to a tennis ball.

Polycarbonate is estimated to be 250 times stronger than glass and 10 times stronger than acrylic. With these statistics, it is apparent that the surface will not shatter or crack when hit with chunks of ice or even falling tree branches. Though the hail will leave a small surface mark, it is a lot safer than having shattered glass cause fiscal damages or severely injuring someone.

Apart from just protecting your loved ones, it also comes with many other benefits. Polycarbonate can also be used to protect tiles, decking, grilling equipment, furniture or anything else of value that could be put at risk during a storm. In addition to the aspect of protection, the panels will also permit you to save considerable amount of funds by using lighter support structures (such as a steel or timber beams).

The roofing system is not exclusive to personal residences either. Other applications may include childproof pool fencing, domes on sporting arenas, musical theatres, traffic screens, bridge walkways, hospitals and shopping centres. Any architectural fixture (or structure) that can be made out of glass, can also be made from polycarbonate.

In addition to the polycarbonate flat sheets, Allplastics offers a diverse range of aesthetically interesting translucent polycarbonate panels:

Multiwall polycarbonate lightweight panels
PEP Core translucent composite panels 19mm thick
Air Board translucent composite panels
STAGE 40 translucent, trafficable, scratch resistant, anti-slip surface

I really like that there are different uses for the polycarbonate roofing. This is great news since some might like it in different uses. My sister would love knowing this as she looks into getting this type of roofing.
