Soundproofing underlay

Silentstep is a high-performance acoustic carpet underlay, comprising of a flexible mass-loaded barrier fused onto high-density premium foam underlay. The combination of these two products allows Silentstep to reduce the transmission impact-generated noise such as footfall, and airborne noise such as speech.

Silentstep was developed to meet market noise reduction requirements in multistorey living, commercial, automotive and marine markets. Simple to cut and lay, it offers excellent support and a firm cushioned base for all types of carpet applications. It is ideally suited for lightweight flooring constructions such as timber and marine applications, where fibreglass and composite floor panels are used.

When laying carpet over a floor constructed using lightweight timber and joists, typical standard underlay only reduces impact noise and offers little effect in reducing the transmission of airborne noise. Silentstep can significantly reduce both impact and airborne noise transfer through a floor system. This means that noise generated from speech and electronic audio technologies, such as radio and television, can be reduced along with noise generated by impact such as footfall.

Silentstep products are environmentally safe, contain no ozone-depleting substances and complies with European and Australian standards for Volatile Organic Compound emissions.

Decidamp products reduce the ringing or tinniness from metal panels and structures, which in turn reduces noise by preventing it from being transmitted through the vibration of the panel.

Advanced micro-perforated metal absorber.

Sorberscreen® Micro is a unique, micro-perforated metal sound absorber. It eliminates the need for flow resistive textile backing, as used on conventional perforated metal screen products.

Sorberscreen® Micro has a hard, durable finish consisting of 1 mm aluminium, with subtle aesthetic appeal, which could be mistaken for fabric.

The perfect finish for sound absorption in architectural and marine walls, ceilings, and noise absorber panel applications, it also finds use in vessel engine rooms, transportation engine bay applications, and around enclosures for both noise control and thermal dissipation.

Available in plain aluminium, anodised or pre-painted to a range of colours. Sorberscreen™ Micro should not be painted or powder coated after micro perforation as this will change the acoustic performance of the panel.

The effective sound absorption obtained across the frequency range using Sorberscreen™ Micro can easily be adjusted by simply changing the depth of the backing void.

Sorberbarrier was developed with the aim of simplifying the acoustic treatment of enclosures, engine bays and plant rooms. Sorberbarrier achieves this with a unique multi-layer construction that combines materials with different acoustic properties, removing the need for the complex constructions of the past. Sorberbarrier allows for simple and effective combined treatment of airborne and transmitted noise.

At the heart of Sorberbarrier is its high mass, flexible noise barrier, based on Wavebar®technology which is formed between two layers of acoustic foam, consisting of a decoupling layer and sound absorption layer.

The absorption layer is faced with a wide range of surface finishes to suit specific application requirements. For example, a perforated vinyl can be applied for a pleasing aesthetic appearance inside a cabinet or an aluminium foil facing can be used in engine bays. For specialist applications Sorberbarrier is also available with polyester fibre or fire retardant melamine foam.

Sorberbarrier is available in standard size sheets, with or without a self-adhesive backing, or as individual components cut to size and shape.

Soundlag is a high-performance composite acoustic lagging product consisting of a reinforced aluminium foil faced, mass loaded flexible vinyl noise barrier bonded to a decoupling layer. The product was developed to reduce noise break-out from pipes, valves, fan housings and ductwork in commercial, industrial and domestic buildings.

The unique construction of Soundlag gives the dual benefits of a noise barrier and a noise absorber. The highly dense and flexible mass layer provides excellent sound reduction properties, whilst the decoupling layer breaks the vibration path between the substrate and the mass barrier, thus allowing the vinyl external wrap to remain flexible and thereby optimise its performance. The external foil facing offers a fire resistant covering and an excellent surface to join adjacent sheets.

Wavebar, is a high-performance, flexible mass-loaded vinyl noise barrier, offering superior acoustic transmission loss.To achieve this high performance, the Pyrotek engineering team developed Wavebar to be dense, thin, highly-flexible, tear-resistant and strong. These properties give the product high transmission loss throughout the various weight ranges.

Stiff lightweight panel constructions, such as plasterboard, drywall, plywood and hollow core walls, typically have coincidence dip resonance which allows noise to transmit through a construction. The coincidence dip is dependent on the material’s stiffness and thickness and occurs at the point where the sound transmitted through the structure matches the natural frequency of the panel.

Wavebar prevents coincidence dip resonance. The dense core mass layer reflects and absorbs the transmission of sound through walls, ceilings and floors, reducing the critical frequencies generated from mechanical equipment, engine noise and electronic audio technologies such as radio and television.

Reapor was developed to maximise noise energy absorption, and resolves issues of fire, weather aging and contamination damage.

Reapor uses recycled glass as its core component, and by nature is sensitive to the environment. During manufacturing, the glass is processed to form expanded granules. Each granule acts as an acoustic absorber in its own right.

Through a heating process the granules are fused together to form a homogenous panel which creates a highly efficient acoustic absorber. This process removes the need for binders leaving the product free from out-gassing, developing smoke in a fire and breakdown through binder failure, giving the product the highest non-combustible fire rating.

Reapor has a wide range of applications where effective noise reduction is required in outdoor applications or indoor areas of high humidity or fire concerns. Its natural resistance to moisture ensures it will not significantly retain or absorb moisture, unlike traditional porous or open-cell materials.

Reapor panels are bonded using adhesive or mechanically fixed depending on the application and substrate. The panels can be machined and processed using standard wood working equipment and dust protection. Reapor panels can be easily painted with water-based paint, rendered for a seamless finish or routed to provide varying texture and shadowing effects.

Sorberfoam is the next generation of combustion modified, flexible acoustic foams, offering high noise absorption properties across a broad frequency range. It was developed to meet market requirements for reducing reverberation noise in the domestic, commercial, OEM and automotive markets.

In conjunction with leading laboratories and test facilities, Pyrotek has formulated and developed a polyurethane foam that outperforms traditional acoustic foams by controlling the cell size, porosity, density and the flow resistivity throughout the cell structure.

Sorberfoam has been proven to absorb substantially more energy across the entire frequency range than traditional polyurethane foams.

Traditional polyurethane foams often break down through hydrolysis (foam rot) under hot, humid and acidic conditions. Sorberfoam is engineered to resist degradation or foam rot.

Sorberfoam offers an alternative to mineral fibre products that tend to shed fibres during application. If not encapsulated, those fibrous products can be deemed a health hazard. The tendency for fibrous products to lose thickness over a period of time means their absorption properties will also be reduced.

Sorberfoam eliminates the hazards and offers an equal and safer alternative in noise absorption.

Sorberpoly acoustic insulation is a fine fibre polyester, non-woven with excellent sound absorbing and thermal insulation properties, useful in high humidity applications. It is also fuel, oil and grease resistant. Under normal applications, Sorberpoly will last a life-time.

Sorberpoly is lightweight, hydrophobic (non-wicking) and easily cut, using scissors or a sharp knife.
