Spain is the largest producer of natural roof slate in the world, producing between 80-90% of the worlds roofing slate.

This is an exclusive slate from the Del Carmen quarry in the Cabrera Mountains of North-West Spain, an area that contains uninterrupted seams of high-quality slate. Del Carmen slate is consistently handpicked by architects around the world for its unrivalled beauty and exceptionally high quality. The unique colour is totally natural and will not fade, even in the strongest sunlight. Del Carmen roofing slate has been tested in accordance with ASTM American Standard C406 and has achieved the highest grade S1. European Standard EN 12326-1 grade T1 and A1. Del Carmen also surpasses the rigorous Norm Francais (NF 228), which is the world’s highest standard for natural slate roofing, which is why Premier Slate are pleased to be able to supply this slate here in Australia.

Premier Slate are suppliers of a breathable membrane known as Permo air. It is the most breathable air open low resistance underlay on the market. Permo air is the ideal solution in areas where there is a high risk of condensation forming in the roofspace, especially useful for humid conditions.

Compressed fibre-cement slates offer a man-made alternative to natural slate. Manufactured in Belgium using the best quality fibres, therefore producing the strongest fibre-cement slates on the market.

Due to their precision fabrication, no preliminary grading according to thickness is required. SVK’s and Eternits are finished with a double layer of acrylic based coating, providing them with both a smooth beautiful appearance but also making them highly resistant to moss growth whilst enhancing the durability of the slates with low water absorption.

Both are available with textured faces and rivened edges to give a close match to the look of natural slates. Rectangular and diamond sizes are available. Premier Slate have blue black or Welsh blue available.

Koramic are the largest producers of clay roof tiles in Europe.

Advanced manufacturing techniques ensure that all Koramic clay roof tiles offer maximum durability and optimum colour consistency. These clay tiles have received a lowest environmental impact rating in the UK and comply with the BS EN 1304 requirement and BS 5534.

The Cwt-y-Bugail slates are extracted from the best Welsh slate vein from the Ffestiniog region in North Wales. Cwt Y Bugail is one of the largest producers of Natural Welsh slate. These Welsh slates are a beautiful dark blue-grey colour with an attractive slightly textured surface. Cwt-y-Bugail have invested time and money into making sure the complete production process from extraction to delivery is rigorously maintained. This precise production results in a slate that is recognized for its aesthetic qualities, low maintenance and durability.

Quarry of origin: Penrhyn, Bethesda, Wales, UK

The Penrhyn Heather Blue slate, also known as Bangor Blue, is one of the most widely used slates. The Penrhyn quarry has been producing roofing slate since the 13th century, and is regarded as being the best in the world. Welsh slate is extracted from some of the world’s finest deposits, formed up to 590 million years ago. Of that extracted only less than 10% is used. They are renowned for the consistency of their colour and texture.

After 100 years of use, the quality of Welsh slate is such that typically 50% of it is re-used. There is no other roofing material which has demonstrated this exceptional durability.

In recent decades new sources of roofing slate have come into production from all over the world, but none have come even close to matching the appearance and performance of welsh slate. In deed Welsh slate have been exporting to the known world since shipping began. Penrhyn Welsh slate has been exported to Australia since the very early days of Australia’s settlement. In the early days of the colony, roofs were generally made of bark and sometimes timber shingles. However these were not good waterproofing materials. Slate was initially used as ballast on trading vessels being sent to Australia to collect timber. When the slate arrived into Australia it was then used as a roofing material on many civic buildings and churches. The first records of Welsh Penrhyn slate being used was in the Rocks, Sydney in 1820.

The Galaxy Rooflite FR50 (smoke reduced burn) resin system has been specifically formulated for commercial and industrial building applications. The sheeting allows the transmission of natural light into the building while providing a fire/smoke retardant feature at a minimal additional cost. Rooflite FR50 is a quality translucent or opaque fibre reinforced plastic sheet produced to meet the requirements where an improved reduction in smoke properties is required. The FR50 product is manufactured using a specific type of polyester resin designed for low smoke generation in the event of a fire. The Galaxy Rooflite FR50 resin system can be applied to the full range of Galaxy profiles in line with standard nominal weights. Typically, the Galaxy Rooflite surface coating systems, ST, Warranty Plus or Tufflite, are all fully compatible with FR50 smoke reducing resin system. Special sheet sizes, profiles and colours can be produced, subject to commercial viability and colour pigment availability. Galaxy FR50 can be confidently specified in your design plan to comply with the relevant standards. Galaxy Rooflite FR50 incorporates a specific smoke & flame retardant formulation and as a result will comply without restriction to the General Requirements of Class 2 to 9 buildings of the Building Code of Australia, Specification C1.10. FR50 is a strong, durable, impact-resistant, cconomical alternative to metal roofing and cladding with excellent long term weathering characteristics. Typical applications include corrosive chemical processing areas, petrochemical environments, wastewater treatment plants, mining industry (smelters), cooling towers, power stations, water treatment plants, chemically aggressive fertilizer storage facilities, marine environments, paper and pulp manufacturing, salt extraction and desalination plants and skylights where safety mesh is not desirable.

Rooflite EFH is a premium quality fire retardant roofing sheet, along with excellent long term weathering properties. The Galaxy Rooflite EFH superior fire retardant resin system incorporates a specific fire retardant formulation that can be applied to the full range of Galaxy Rooflite profiles in line with standard nominal weights. Typically, any of the Galaxy Rooflite surface coatings or product systems (SC, Warranty Plus & Tufflite) is fully compatible with the EFH resin system. EFH has superior long term clarity and weathering characteristics. Typical applications include industrial and commercial building skylights, building skylight sidings and retail buildings.

Galaxy Tufflite is a premium quality industrial heavy woven glass FRP sheet with proven excellent long-term weathering properties. Available in a standard weight of 3660gsm, Galaxy Tufflite is manufactured in strict accordance with AS/NZS 4256 parts 1 & 3: 1994. All resins are UV stabilized to provide excellent resistance to UV degradation. If cleaned regularly the sheeting will retain its original bright appearance over many years. Galaxy Tufflite can also be manufactured in various other resin base configurations (made to order). They are ST (Standard Polyester) CR (Chemical Resistant), EFH (Low Smoke), or CRFR (Chemical Resistant and Fire Retardant). Galaxy Tufflite is an ideal cost effective alternative to traditional metal roofing systems. Tufflite has additional reinforcement with the use of a heavy woven glass fibre matt. This is impregnated and cured into the resin matrix, which provides remarkable strength and protection in all directions. Rooflite GelCoat Ultratec Topclad Fibreglass is used when there is a requirement for a Solid Sheet look. The characteristics of a composite product combined with the numerous roofing profiles give the architect limitless options for both colour on top and below to give it a solid sheet appearance. The GelCoat is tinted on top where the bottom colour is mixed into the base resin giving it the appearance of a steel sheet but without the limitations. When combined with Vinyl Ester resin it is the perfect replacement for aluminum roofing in highly corrosive environments. We recommend using the woven matt Tufflite for jobs where the safety mesh is unable to be used due to the corrosive environments but the need for a solid sheet look is required. The Rooflite Bush Skylight System is designed for areas prone to bush fires where a BAL rating is required. It is tested to BAL 40 and provides natural light in bush fire areas.
