Australian coatings manufacturer Murobond has released an innovative paint wash that achieves an on-trend limed finish for timber surfaces and floors in a water-based, low-odour product. With soft, neutral colour palettes making a strong re-entry into interior design trends in the coming seasons, limed timber floors and whitewashed wood surfaces are also featuring in many modern interiors. However, consumers have previously had to use an oil-based paint in conjunction with a strong chemical sealer or varnish to achieve the look. In many cases, home-owners are prevented from entering their house for several days following timber liming, because of the toxic odours and fumes of traditional products.
Murobond's Whitewash creates a soft, translucent wash reminiscent of Scandinavian limed timber in a very low-VOC and low-odour coating. Available in both black and white washes, the product is also non-yellowing, making it longer wearing and significantly more economical than other similar products on the market.
Used on timber floors and decking, Whitewash can be used in conjunction with Murothane-a water-based protective interior sealant that comes in a similar low-odour formula and is also non-yellowing. Murothane can additionally be used as a stand-alone sealant for a range of other surfaces, including concrete, tiles, stone and cement. The two products offer a unique, one-stop solution to creating an on-trend interior timber treatment, without introducing harsh chemicals to the home and requiring consumers to compromise their environmental and health concerns.
Both Whitewash and Murothane were created in response to an enquiry from an architect looking for an ecologically sustainable, high-performance timber finish. This customised tailoring of a product to the home-owner's needs is a central plank of Murobond's philosophy, moving away from highly processed manufacturing lines in favour of personal, ethical and sustainable products.
